This blog reported the news here in December that Wynn would not use Marnell Corrao to build Encore. The inference in the LV Sun article at the time was that Tony Marnell's firm was busy with other projects. Today, we read that Marnell Corrao will be working with Aztar on the Tropicana property.

With Marnell's involvement with Steve Wynn on Mirage, TI, Bellagio and Wynn Las Vegas, it seems odd that Marnell isn't building Encore. There must be more to the story that is not being reported.

Wynn did say Marnell broke his back building WLV, especially with the mountain portion, and that he's still not sure if he profited on the project because it was so complex; that could have something to do with it.

I'm not exactly sure if this is true, but I believe the reason that Marnell may not have decided to take on encore (in addition to the before metnioned other projects that he has signed on with) is due to budget complications that came about during the construction of WLV. During the interview on Steve Friess's ipod with Steve Wynn, Wynn mentioned that Marnell was still wondering whether or not he made any money on the project due to the complications and increases in the budget, and unexpected costs that arose in the construction of the hotel. This particularly refers to the closing out of the mountain and the elemetns surrounding it. Wynn mnetions that the compnay paid Marnell $50 million to close it up and that Marenll was still wondering whether he had made any money on the deal. But I might be wrong.
