The Las Vegas Sun reports that MGM's CityCenter is adding more than 1,100 hotel rooms and condos to the CityCenter project on the Strip between Bellagio and Monte Carlo. The changes will add $1 Billion to the development. Estimated cost of CityCenter is now $6 Billion, up from the original estimate of $4 Biillion which was subsequently raised to $5 Billion.

Honest question: Is there any good reason for promoting the price tag as heavily as they do on these resorts? I know they do it in the marketing materials because it makes it sound fancy, but Vegas review/news fan sites seem to make mention of them, too.
The cost of constructing something is much higher than it was when Bellagio was built.
I think newspapers and such always mention the price tag because people are curious and it draws a mental picture of how large(and fancy) a project is going to be.
Of course MGM Mirage mentions the price because they are speaking to their stockholders! They really aren't concerned at this point about 'Joe Sixpack' looking for another good blackjack table.
