Gaming Today isn't exactly hard hitting journalism, but it was nice to read their piece on the Golden Nugget, and the improvements that Landry's is making. When I was there two weeks ago, I was very impressed with GN's appearance and cleanliness. The property was spotless. New restaurants, pool and shark tank and another hotel tower could all help the Golden Nugget revive downtown.
Golden Nugget: Downtown's Gold Standard

Thanks Detroit. It'll be interesting to see if the rooms in the new tower are on par quality and size-wise with the ones found in the newer Strip properties and locals places like GVR and RRS. On my most recent trip I stayed at Aladdin for two nights and the Nugget for two nights and even for a guys trip it took a little getting used to the drop off from the size of the Aladdin bathrooms to those at the Nugget. With all the other promising amenities coming online at the Nugget and the other advantages downtown (i.e. casinos closer to each other and remaining good blackjack games), it'd be great to have yet another reason to stay down there.
