BeeGees Musical at Encore? Wynn Arts Center?

Posted by Hunter

Robin Leach has come forward with a couple of supposed Wynn Las Vegas / Encore updates.

First is that Wynn wants to do a BeeGees musical at Encore, which may or may not be called 'Stayin' Alive'.

Second is that supposedly Wynn will break ground on a 4,000 seat 'Wynn Arts Center'.

I assume this would have to be out on the golf course side of things as there's little space elsewhere.

I should note that Leach has not always been the most reliable in the past. As some commenters suggest, it might be prudent to see what unfolds here.

I'll wait until I hear the man himself say it. They play their cards very close after the foundation is poured, but Steve just loves to talk about blue-sky ideas.

4000 seats arts center, eh? Sounds similar to The Colosseum at Caesars. Wynn was showing a lot of liking to Celine Dion in one interview, saying that she, Danny Gans, and Siegfried and Roy had the most hours as entertainers per yer in Las Vegas (or something similar to that). Maybe he wants her if she returns to Vegas.

But I think that is highly unlikely as I'm sure she would return to Caesars Palace, instead of going over to Wynn/Encore. But then again, Celine's show was created by Franco Dragone, and he has always done amazing shows for Steve (with the exception of the first year and a bit of Le Reve).

I don't think that "Stayin' Alive" could draw nearly enough people to fill 4000 seats every night. It takes a special type of Las Vegas show to do that, there needs to be someone with enough worldwide fame to fill those seats.

If Leach's sources are to be believed (the operative word being "if"), "Stayin' Alive" would split time with Danny F. Gans in the Encore Theater. Then again, all this stuff sounds like Wynn sending up trial balloons via anonymous sources.

Yeah, Leach does not have the best track record with these rumors which is why I put question marks in the title. Could go either way.

I have serious doubts a BeeGees musical would fill theaters night after night. I just don't see it but I guess Jersey Boys is doing okay.

Very cool, I am excited about both items if in fact they are true. Neither one shock me, Wynn has said for a long time that he had the plans already done long ago, for a event center similar to the one at CP. I think Wynn does need to expand his entertainment in order to keep the hotel full and active.

I would say the Bee Gees thing is pretty surprising. Are there still a lot of fans for that?

Considering that Mama Mia is soon to leave in spite of solid ticket sales (solid in the Wynn world means Danny Gans solid, which MM can still do) and a recent movie, I can't imagine putting in a clone when you could poach the real deal.

I think "Stayin' Alive" was the name of a muscial I saw at Sahara 3-4 years ago. Seems like Wynn would really distance himself from that, both in plot and title. I do think it has potential. The Bee Gees and "Saturday Night Fever" were the kings of the disco era, and tales of the good times can be very popular in hard times.

Put me down for thinking the Bee Gees/disco theme having potential. I just don't want to see another Cirque du Solei interpretation.

The amphitheater I guess goes along with the Wynn's version of New York's Central Park idea on the golf course property. One thing I wonder about that park is how often will it be used in the summer and winter months? Maybe a wrong, but if he tries to create a world class park with incredible gardens and water effects, will people be interested in walking through a gigantic park in 110 degree heat in the summer? Fall and spring yes, winter, not so sure. Plenty of people walk the strip in 110 degree heat, so maybe I'm wrong. Personally though I'd love to see a world class park and gardens at Wynn regardless of my speculation of it being well attended. That idea is only something Wynn could pull off because undoubtedly it would be beautiful.

Hopefully this doesn't mean the return of 'Buck Wild' as the primary show for the golf course development. :D

how many seats does the "encore theater" have and where does it compare to places like the Colosseum and other venues on the strip? I saw spamalot but I can't really put my finger on the capacity.

TC - It can vary. When Avenue Q was there it sat about 1200. But they reconfigured the theater for Spamalot, to accomodate about 1500. Its no where near the size of CP which holds about 4000. Its by far the biggest on the strip, with the exception of the 7k seat events center at P.H. and there are even larger event centers at MGM, MB, and Mirage, which almost never uses theirs.

LOL Mike_ch! I think I heard from a maintenance guy at the Hilton, who heard it from a mower at Shadow Creek, who heard it from a Wynn course sprinkler adjustor, that when they were at a Golf Course Workers Union social, the Wynn guy said they were putting in that Russian Ice show that had been at the Riveria. The combination of ice and grass will be the gratest spectacle in the Western world.

I believe that there are plenty of BeeGees fans left. Handled correctly this could work. The Brothers Gibb have re-invented themself a time or two and I think they have it in them for another re-invention. (My cousin still carries her BeeGees fan club card in her billfold, and proud of it). I hope if this comes to be the media will be kind, support them, and give them a chance.
